Our Story

An Unexpected Friendship.

Some stories are too special not to share.

Ours began with a golden retriever named Barley and a tiny four-day-old duckling named Louie.

Neither of them knew that one simple meeting would change both of their lives—and eventually touch the hearts of millions of people around the world.

It Started with Barley

In early 2024, Barley was diagnosed with epilepsy.

While medication successfully controlled her seizures, it also changed her. The playful, goofy, happy golden retriever we knew seemed quieter and less like herself.

Watching her lose that spark was heartbreaking.

Then something unexpected happened.

Enter Louie

In May 2024, a four-day-old Pekin duckling came to our home.

The moment Barley met Louie, something clicked.

They looked at each other...

...and from that day forward, they were inseparable.

Louie followed Barley everywhere.

Barley watched over Louie like a big sister.

What started as an unlikely friendship slowly became something truly remarkable.

As Louie settled into our family, Barley slowly began to rediscover the playful spirit we had been missing.

Whether they were exploring the yard, sharing snacks, lounging in the sun, or simply enjoying each other's company, they reminded us that friendship doesn't have to look the way we expect.

Sharing Their Story

Like so many families, we constantly took photos and videos of our pets.

Friends kept telling us,

"You have to share these two."

So we started posting little moments online.

We never imagined that people from all over the world would fall in love with Barley and Louie the same way we had.

What began as a fun account for friends quickly grew into a community of people who simply needed something positive to smile about.

Their story has since been featured by national media, including The Washington Post and CBS Evening News, introducing even more people to their unlikely friendship.

More Than Pets

Duck and a Dog isn't just about Barley and Louie.

It's about kindness.

It's about slowing down.

It's about finding joy in the simple moments.

It's about believing that our differences can bring us together instead of keeping us apart.

Every time someone wears our logo, shares one of our videos, or tells a friend about Barley and Louie, that message reaches one more person.

Giving Back

Barley's journey is the reason this story exists.

Because of that, giving back will always be part of our mission.

A portion of every purchase helps support canine epilepsy research and awareness, honoring the journey that brought Barley and Louie together and helping other families facing similar challenges.

Welcome to the Family

Whether you've been following us since the very beginning or you just discovered us today...

Welcome.

We're grateful you're here.

We hope Barley and Louie continue to remind you that friendship can be found in the most unexpected places.
